This course will update and inform you about the availability of state-of-the-art technologies in Proteomics and Genomics and the applications thereof for with utility for research, translational or diagnostic test development endeavors.
Welcome to the Foundation in Omics course! In this module, we will cover the course contents and what you can expect from this course.
It's important that an organization or a company has an ISO compliant environment that gives you credibility which means your results are valid and acceptable everywhere in the world. This module covers the importance of a quality management system and the essential elements thereof.
This module gives a brief overview of all the basics that will carry through the course. We will look at DNA, the polymerase chain reaction, an introduction to sequencing, genes versus genomes, and genotyping.
The focus is on DNA/RNA extractions and the QC of DNA and RNA samples. Our overview includes specimen collection, specimen delivery and storage as well as nucleic acid isolation methods - automated and manual as well as QC checks.
This module gives insight into the basic principles and chemistries pertinent to Real-Time PCR. The theory is then extended to potential applications thereof. The last part of the module speaks to deigning a project.
We kick off with a re-cap of the generations of sequencing, discuss Illumina Sequencing by synthesis and look at alternative sequencing approaches: Ion Torrent, Oxford Nanopore, PacBio. We then move on to library preparation and finish off with data analysis.
This module looks at what NGS is and how it can be applied. We look at types of (Illumina) NGS projects and NGS and genomics at CPGR. The module concludes with assistance with project planning.
This module provides a brief look at what precision medicine is. It covers the role and function of Artisan Biomed and its focus area. We look at how molecular techniques can be utilized to implement a diagnostic test – in this case Implementation of NIPT and then explore future activities.
In this module we look at what microarrays are. Different microarray technologies are discussed including GeneChip arrays and Infinium BeadChip arrays.
This module provides a brief introduction and considerations with sample prep. It provides an introduction to LC-MS as well as a discussion on discovery versus targeted methodologies and finally ending up with some considerations that you should take into account when you are planning your proteomics experiments.
This module provides a brief introduction to bioinformatics. We look at what bioinformatics can do for you. Some practical bioinformatics guidance is offered and then we discuss how to get the most from a bioinformatician.
